The Honor Everywhere Virtual Reality Program, initiated by VISN 16, is a stunning innovation that transports veterans directly to iconic war memorials without leaving their homes. Launched in November 2024, this groundbreaking initiative aligns perfectly with the VA's strategic objective for 2025 by prioritizing veterans' whole health.
Virtual Reality: A Lifeline for Heroes
Imagine standing in front of the solemn Vietnam War Memorial or walking through the hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery, all while comfortably seated in your living room. For many veterans, this experience might feel like a distant dream, especially with over 200 WWII veterans passing away daily, many of whom will never see their memorials in person. With the implementation of the Honor Everywhere program, veterans facing mobility challenges can now immerse themselves fully in their history.
A New Way to Honor Valor
The program includes several war memorials from Washington, D.C., such as the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial and the Korean War Memorial. With virtual reality headsets provided through the collaborative efforts of VISN 16’s Innovation Specialists and the Support Leading Innovation Subcommittee, users can engage with these memorials in an immersive 3D experience. Each session is crafted using preloaded content, ensuring that each veteran's engagement is impactful and personal.

One moving story shared by Andrew C. Harris III, the Virtual Care Technology Manager, involved a Vietnam veteran who, due to health conditions, had limited mobility. His first-time experience with the virtual reality system moved him deeply, compelling him to express gratitude for feeling seen through the immersive visuals and audio.
